| I use Hotmail, Yahoo Mail, Gmail, etc. Will my interview invitation be caught in the spam filter? |
 | YES. All interview invitations are sent via email. Interview requests are notoriously caught by the spam mail filters of major free email addresses. It is important that you check your spam email and make appropriate changes in your email settings to enable emails from creighton.edu to pass through the filter. Please be proactive and make these changes in your spam filter settings. You may lose your chance to interview otherwise. |
| What are the home states of Creighton medical students? |
 | Please
see this link for
statistics. |
| What are the average GPA and MCAT scores for the School of Medicine? |
 | The last three entering classes have an average science GPA of 3.7 and average MCAT scores of 9s and 10s. The admissions committee evaluates individual scores per section, not just the total MCAT score. Balanced individual MCAT scores are more favorable than a high cumulative score including one low individual score. For example, a cumulative MCAT score of 33 is considered more favorable when it is an 11-11-11 rather than a 6-13-14. |
| How many applications does Creighton receive? |
 | As
of
the end of 2004 nearly 5000
applications
have been
received for the 2005 entering class. There
are 120 spots for new M1s. Historical
applications statistics can be found on the fact
book. |
| What is the completion deadline? |
 | The AMCAS primary application must be in Washington by December 1. Transcripts must be in Washington by December 7. The secondary and all required letters of reference must be postmarked no later than February 1. |
| When is my file being reviewed? |
 | Once your file is complete it is referred to the admissions committee. Files are reviewed in no specific order. However, since admissions is rolling, it is to your advantage to complete your application as soon as possible. Every application fully completed receives committee review. |
| How do I know if my application is complete? |
 | Applicants
are
notified by email when the
application is
complete. After a reasonable amount of time, if you think that your
application
is complete, but have not heard from Creighton, please submit
a status
check
inquiry. |
| When does Creighton stop interviewing? |
 | Creighton University typically interviews until early April. |
| I have an upcoming interview. Where should I stay? What should I do? |
 | Information about the Hosting Program and hotels, as well as Omaha, are provided on the Prospective Students menu on the left of the screen. The students at Creighton University encourage you to avail yourselves of the student hosting program, which will show you how a real Creighton medical student lives and thinks outside of the admissions process. We think that you will find that we are helpful and really do care about making your interview experience a positive one. |
| I just interviewed. When should I expect a decision on my application? |
 | Generally speaking, admissions decisions are made within a
two to three week timeframe. This
timeframe is not firm. The timing is based on when the application
committee
meets and can be affected by academic holidays such as Christmas or
Easter. Committee
meeting dates are confidential. Keeping this in mind, if you haven't
heard from
the admissions committee after a reasonable amount of time, do
a status
check. |
| I am on the waitlist, how do I find out where I stand? |
 | The admissions process is done on a rolling basis. Alternate lists are not ranked. The office of admissions advises candidates on the alternate lists to advise the committee on updates (particularly grade reports), and any new information will be evaluated with your current application. Relevant information includes any new shadowing experiences, volunteer experiences, additional coursework, research or publications, awards, as well as anything else that the admissions committee has not seen. In short, advise the admissions committee on anything relevant that you have done since completing your initial application. |

| Do I need a car in Omaha? |
 | Most students have cars at Creighton. Omaha does have a bus system, but it runs infrequently. A small handful of students do not have cars, however their ability to do routine things like to go the grocery store is severely limited. Some married medical students sucessefully manage with one car between them. A car is definitely recommended. |
| I've never been to Omaha, where should I live? |
 | Look at the "Moving to Omaha" section on the menu to the left of the screen. There is a wealth of information, including a current student housing survey available for your perusal. |
